Thought I would share this video in follow up to my post about the space shuttle Endeavor's lost tool bag.
Just thinking today about what it means to be a rebel. We always think that rebels are people that go against the norm. That don't follow those into the status quo. Usually, they are the people who are looked down upon in our society.
"If you really want to be a rebel read your bible, because no one is doing that."
That is from a song by Lecrae called Rebel. I find it really interesting that students in particular are considered to be rebels when they start to party, smoke, drink and what not. This is when students begin to lose connection with family, friends and the world and start to "rebel" against the norm. But hold on, have we looked at our society lately. The porn industry makes more money each year than any successful corporation in the United States. Smoking is old habit, drinking is not that big of deal as long as you do it legally. But, I've been to college, no one does it legally. Sex out of wedlock, we know how often we hear about that not only through affairs but in pregnant teenagers.
So are all these students rebels when they step out from their parents and begin to follow what the world is telling them is okay?
I think that lyric says it best; if these students were really rebels they would be going to church every sunday, pursuing the Lord daily, spending their spring breaks and summers in third world countries giving their time and money to those in need of it and reading their bibles. Because to be a rebel in this society you would be doing that. Why is that a rebel? Because no one is doing it. That's not normal. The normal teenager struggles with addictions, lust and anything else they can find in todays society that is said to be normal.
Join the revolution, be a bible reading rebel.

At 4:55 on the video above is when the tool bag that slipped away into space happened.
In light of today's news about the big 'Ooops!' that happened on Space Shuttle Endeavor when a tool bag got lost into space because it wasn't properly tethered I thought I would share a site that has some excellent recent Hubble Telescope pictures. Click the big word Oops on the title to check out the site.
Alright, so I have to tell this hilarious story of a good friend of mine Emily Rigsbee.
Last night we had a great night at my house with all of the leaders in our youth group and we laughed, discussed and laughed and one of the funniest things we laughed about was why Emily was a little later than she planned.
Emily called me and said that she was going to be late because, and I quote "Guess who spilled yogurt all over herself?" And I of course responded with "Umm, that other girl over there?!"
Emily had somehow exploded a container of yogurt not only all over her car, but all over her entire body. You would think that if your yogurt would have exploded all over you it would have been all over the front of you. Well, when Emily showed up she had yogurt all over her pants on the front and the back and the front of her jacket and the back of the sleeves. I mean I know she is a chemist but exploding yogurt while eating it isn't something she has studied or done ever at Dow.
For edification and just enjoyment I had to let everyone know this great story. We laughed about this quite a bit the rest of the night.
Emily, keep on exploding stuff, you chemist you, even if you don't plan to.
So I was talking to my fiancee tonight. Ya, I have a fiancee! She told me this great story that basically sums up how amazing she is.
She said that she had a friend in a class and they had to find other words in other words. It was like word find but with already created words minus the puzzle stuff. Anyways, her and her classmate were looking for the word 'saturday' and they were looking for a word in it. They found the word 'turd'. So now when she hears or reads the word 'saturday' she always sees the word 'turd".
I love her.
Oh ya, and by the way, saturday is even better because that is the day that we got engaged. So saturday shares two awesome significances in her life.

Today was the 2nd annual To Write Love on Her Arms day. I and many others in the country wrote the word love on our arms in remembrance of those struggling with cutting, teen suicide, depression and pain.
I think that this group is a great place for a story to be told and others to hear and relate and know they are not alone in their struggle.
Be encouraged by this day, especially if you struggle.

You might be able to do more than you think

Just saw this video today and thought you all should know that the simplest thing that you do may be more significant to others. You might be able to do more than you think. You know, baby = Bruce Lee!! Haha, really I just wanted you all to see this hilarious video. Check it.

Have you ever been disappointed when someone doesn't deliver? Have you ever felt like it really wasn't that hard to do something as simple as do what you asked, right!?
I thought this was one of the funniest things I have ever heard in a long time.
Robot Parade from Jared Foster on Vimeo.
Just thought I'd post this video for all of those who haven't seen it and for those of you who did but need some more robot parades in your life. Hope this song gets stuck in your head today!
Do well.
I was on the facebook group page for Reflect student ministries just updating some stuff (make sure to join or check it out) and came across my name on the side. It simply had my name and next to it was (creator). It made me feel really weird. Me, creator? naw... I am not good enough to be a creator. But then I thought about it again and laughed because the word was lower case and that me feel a bit better. I'm a "creator" not the "Creator."
Random really, but you know. Check out the video, because I bet you have wanted to ask that guys question.
Continue to do well all.
Grace and peace to you all. I hope all those on fall break are enjoying themselves. Praise God for His previsions in our times of need. Praise God for convictions of myself and those of others that convey often what I cannot.
Woke up this morning too depressed and shamed to leave my bed
Cant stand to see my own reflection so I hang my head
feel like a disappointment like the scum of the earth
I'm so hurt I know you see I cant cover my dirt
my souls dying hearts weak and I cant even cry
I'm sposed to run to you but WHY I'm such an evil guy
The sun's shining but for me it's the darkest of days
Try to pretend it never happened but the guilt remains
I leave the house it feels like everybody knows I did it
Feel like they reading my mind and know the sin I committed
Through your blood I'm aquitted but my heart doesnt get it
Oh God I'm desperate for Help cause I'm grieving your Spirit
I couldn't sing in the sunday service, Lord I felt fake
and when they started communion I just made an escape
I'm in need of your grace/ feels like you hid your face
Lord Lead me back to cross and show me my sins erased
Have you made this cry before, have these words been the words of your heart. Be encouraged they are the words of many who follow Christ. These specific words are the lyrics of Christian rapper Lecrae.
I'm so desperate, I can't believe I've sinned against you
Create in me a clean heart (I'm so sorry)
Your mercy is what I need
Continue to do well.
Food for thought, read this letter from a pretty cool man in our mainstream society:
My confession:
I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees.. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are: Christmas trees.
It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu . If people want a creche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.
I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.
Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.
In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.
Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her 'How could God let something like this happen?' (regarding Katrina) Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said, 'I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?'
In light of recent events... terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.
Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK.
Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.
Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'
My Best Regards, Honestly and respectfully,
Ben Stein
Do you agree, disagree let me know.
Well I was really pumped tonight after meeting with the building council, the contractor and architect for the building of the youth center. That place is going to be awesome! I am really excited to be a part of such an amazing project that is really going to change the way Calvary does youth ministry. God has placed me here at Calvary for a reason, a purpose and I am blessed. I have come in at a pivotal time. God has great plans for the other youth guy that left this summer and that is awesome. From my side, it is really awesome to see how perfect God is. I had been waiting for a long time for God to finally show the place to be. He is faithful and led me to Calvary. God wants me at Calvary for many reasons and I really don't know any of them, to be totally honest. Nevertheless, talk about a pivotal time to come into a new ministry, not to mention my first (own) youth ministry. I am blessed by the church, but most importantly the Lord of the Heavens, the God of creation knows all things and makes them good. No matter how hard I could have planned for an opportunity like this at Calvary to be used for what God wants to happen, I could not have put it together. God knows what is perfect because He is perfect. That is why I don't know the perfect way for my life or my time, because I am not perfect. Christ has cleansed me of everything that has kept me from God, Christ cleansed me of myself! I thought I could do it all by myself, me. I have died to myself and risen with Christ in His resurrection through my baptism and life. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
